Advanced Health Care Directive

An Advanced Health Care Directive (AHCD), sometimes referred to as a “power of attorney for health care” or a DNR (do not resuscitate) order, is a writing which give another person the power to make health care decisions on an informal basis.

It does not involve the Courts and there is no judicial oversight.

Most doctors and hospitals have a form AHCD approved by the American Medical Associations. It is now recommended that all persons review and sign an AHCD. Like a power of attorney for finances, a person must HAVE CAPACITY to sign an Advanced Health Care Directive. If the individual waits too long, the only alternative may be conservatorship.

If you are interested in discussing an issue related to an AHCD with Mrs. Martin, please call 650-340-1166 to schedule an appointment.
